Amazon is now stepping into convenience store news, testing their “convenience-store-like retail outlet”–Amazon Go. The test location is currently open to employees, with plans to open to the public in 2017.

December 5, 2016 | Amazon Launches “Just Walk Out” C-Store

SEATTLE – Amazon has launched Amazon Go, a new convenience-store-like retail outlet with no checkout required. The company’s “just walk out” technology automatically detects when a customer takes or returns products to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart. When the customer is done shopping, he or she can leave the store. Shortly after, Amazon will charge the customer’s Amazon account and send a receipt. [Keep reading at]

It seems more and more companies are expanding into the convenience circuit lately; including Wal-Mart. “The concept was born because at Walmart we are constantly looking for ways to add convenience. Customers are changing the way they shop and we want to make sure we are changing too,”  Gina Kretoski, Walmart eCommerce market coach, tells the Denver Business Journal.
